Of saving myself then the world

Image
Last week, a mentor-friend and I had a good conversation about my career direction in life for 2011. Our chat made me realized a major decision that I have to make in the near future. For those who don’t know what keeps me busy aside from my day job and graduate study, this post will tell you how I gave my heart to social development and community work for the past 5 years. In the discourse of or chat we talked about my career and commitments. (Actually I’m worried that I’m not going anywhere and I’m behind in reaching my targets and goals in life.) […] Friend: You have already given 2 years of your life (to helping others) tama na yun... (That’s enough) Me: : ) I know. And I love to keep doing it. Friend: And the first 2 years of your life out of college is very crucial to further your career so focus on your work now... focus focus focus.... in the end...saving the world is as important as saving your life Me: I'm just being stubborn right now. I’m giving...

Are Filipinos Stupid?

Image
Why would a fellow Filipino described “Filipinos are stupid”? This happened on one of my wall posts regarding the topic of DOT's marketing strategy for tourism. The conversation was diverted to blaming Filipinos being stupid. If you are concerned about this thought, care to share your findings?

Venus Raj's black elbow

Image
I have nothing against Venus Raj, in fact, I'm a big fan of her. I admire her as a good role model and being a Filipina beauty queen. She was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe on March 6, 2010 during the pageant's Grand Coronation Night at the Araneta Coliseum. She represented the Republic of the Philippines in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant and placed fourth runner-up to Ximena Navarrete of Mexico. My friend, S, took these photos in an event where Venus Raj was hosting. S commented about Venus' black elbow. She laughed about it, seeing the impurity on Venus' elbow. Venus is actually has pretty face and X-factor personality but she's not flawless at all. But these does not make me love her less as a person I look up to. I'll still be your major major fan.

Wear A Condom

This is serious. There is a high aids scare in the country. Survey revealed a significant rise in the prevalence rate of HIV among men and women having unprotected sex. Recent news reported that Gensan’s last count was 21. The country? It now has over 900 cases but in 2007, it was only 280. Scary, right? But hey, I am not a victim.; just building an awareness. How does one get HIV? I read in positivism.ph, HIV is primarily found in the blood, semen, breast milk or vaginal fluid of an infected person. HIV is transmitted through these bodily fluids in 3 main ways: 1. Having sex without a condom with someone infected with HIV. 2. Sharing needles and syringes with someone infected with HIV. 3. As a fetus or infant, being exposed to HIV before or during birth or through breastfeeding. But the virus is not transmitted through day-to-day activities such as shaking hands, hugging, or a casual kiss. Meanwhile, here’s a video for everybody to think about (and laugh). I know th...

Ipanema, Brazil. The mere mention of this tropical paradise evokes images of pristine beaches, cool, blue waters, rhythmic samba grooves, and beautiful people—the stuff summertime dreams are made of. Make this summer fantasy come alive as renowned footwear brand Ipanema launches its latest GB collection dubbed as “Colorful Sea”, endorsed by Brazilian goddess and world’s most successful supermodel, Gisele Bündchen ! I need a Hero

Image
A friend gave me a Christmas gift. A Hero (Be Somebody) Novelty photo holder! This was for being recognized as a modern hero. I thought that was absolutely awesome, and a bit random. So it got me thinking – what is the best or strangest gift you’ve ever received last holidays? The gift is now displayed in the cabinet of my toy collections. This simple gift always reminds me that even superheros need a hero - I need one.

endless nights, better days

Each night seems to be the longest night of my life not because I am always staying up late at night reading lectures of my professors or doing assignments or finishing a machine problem but because of feeling tired and toxic. Unlike any other day that I had, this feeling inside me keeps on growing each day. Feeling homesick might contribute to this feeling. My not so good work management on things I have to finish might tired me to death. Too much commitment might intoxicate me to feel this way. I told myself that I was strong but I was wrong. I thought that I was superman who can do everything but my alter-ego so powerful to weaken me as human being only. I realized that not all things in life are meant to be. Life is meant to be. I realized that not everything is a piece of cake, sometimes the cake can't be sliced to pieces. I realized all of these but still I am stubborn to believe it. The rebel in me always wanted to fight back. I guess I just have to continue to live my lif...

On that date, WordPress users and soon-to-be users, developers and advocates gathered to camp at De La Salle – College of St. Benilde, Manila. bday bash

Well, how was my birthday yesterday? How did I celebrate my very SPECIAL/LUCKY DAY? It was super fun. That was one of the best birthday party I have had in my first twenty one years here on earth. It was well-spent because of you guys (my family, blogger friends, college friends, best friends, co-leaders, Pathways family, TOSP family, TYG family, and many more). I spent the fantastic night with my TOSP friends (Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines) in the GK designer’s night (cocktail party) organized by Tony Meloto, the founder of Gawad Kalinga (GK) to celebrate the hero-ship of young leaders who work on nation building at NBC tent, global city, Taguig. It was a great event; top executives of established companies, eminent political leaders ( including Vice President Noli de Castro ) and academic leaders, and professionals were there to commemorate my birthday and the event ( the latter is true ). Ryan Cayabyab and his singers entertained us. After the event, we hopped in ba...

the luxurious predicament

Hey, guys! I’m back. The soon-to-be SSEAYP experience was dropped. I had withdrawn the ticket that entitles me to cruise with the Nippon ship for two months to all south East Asian countries. It was a tough decision that I made. I was only given 30 minutes to decide to where I’ll attend – TOSP formation or SSEAYP Pre-departure training which were scheduled on the same dates. Thirty minutes that time seems to be a reflective moment for me, discerning what is best and what my heart is beating. I was holding on the phone talking to two parties, trying to arrange my schedules but it seems that both were not negotiable. I’ve solicited wise opinions and suggestions from some emphatic people in the formation, some of them were delegates of SSEAYP the past years. It was heart-breaking and distressing to choose between the two opportunities at hand that is too luxurious and rare but need only to select one, need to weigh the best and go for it without regrets. In those thirty minutes of disce...
