Of saving myself then the world

Last week, a mentor-friend and I had a good conversation about my career direction in life for 2011. Our chat made me realized a major decision that I have to make in the near future.

For those who don’t know what keeps me busy aside from my day job and graduate study, this post will tell you how I gave my heart to social development and community work for the past 5 years.

In the discourse of or chat we talked about my career and commitments. (Actually I’m worried that I’m not going anywhere and I’m behind in reaching my targets and goals in life.)

[…]
Friend: You have already given 2 years of your life (to helping others)
tama na yun... (That’s enough)
Me: : ) I know. And I love to keep doing it.

Friend: And the first 2 years of your life out of college is very crucial to further your career
so focus on your work now...
focus focus focus....
in the end...saving the world is as important as saving your life
Me: I'm just being stubborn right now. I’m giving enough time to see where I’m going with this.

Friend: kasi bata ka pa (because you’re still young)
you have overlooked responsibility...
its expected of you...
think of your future...
after a year..Those awards will be only in photos, cabinets, and sometimes...you won’t even remember were you put the plaques and certificates.
Me: Sigh.

Friend: If you're stubborn enough to continue it...
find a work that you are stable… well paid... and then can fulfill your passion
Me: But I’m partly happy with my work now. I somehow feel happy about it and studying.

Friend: Well...I have to tell you this...
try going to the pawnshop and sell those awards certificate...
if they translate into money...and security
fine..i stand corrected
be practical Mark...You’re smart, Mark!
Me: Yes, I am. But my heart is confused about things I really wanted.
My mom is also adamant about this...and she pushed me to find a more stable job too. Lol.

Friend: Mark... The world has a lot to offer...
from the soothing to the sinful
and the world will offer this when you are young...
Me: Hoy sobrang kontrabida naman advice mo! Haha (Hey your advice tends to be antagonistic!)
Friend: Uy...You need a contrabida sa buhay para maging makulay ang buhay (There is a need for individuals who will antagonize your decisions.)

That’s it. This leaves me reflecting. Lol.

You just have to follow what you want in your life, although we have to think about ourselves. Just follow your instincts.;-) hehe. Godspeed.

Just raising a point here. As far as the plaques and awards are concerned, you can put them to good use if you place them in your resume. LOL.
